I’m what is called a ‘Suicide Loss Survivor’… having experienced an employee’s suicide. It’s similar to Survivor’s Remorse, where you escape a tragic situation, but your friend doesn’t… and you wonder if you could’ve done more to save them. In most cases, you could not have done any more.

As Emmanuel Ingram said, “As we shared in discussion while you were here, Suicide Prevention Awareness is not the type of seminar that will have people running up to thank you for at the end. The stigma is not easily erased, and the thought that others might see them as symptomatic still scares some. However, a month later I am relieved to say that I still get the occasional thanks for bringing you in to speak. No, we can’t always count the number of lives we save. Yet, as you so memorably put it, we can focus on saving ours and recognizing that we are an important piece in everyone’s puzzle. We look forward to having you back. Thank you.”
